Families & Bloodlines

Sam-Son’s legendary broodmare band began in the early 70’s when Ernie Samuel privately purchased future broodmare Oleana, and in 1975 made his first two purchases at the Woodbine Sales, yearling fillies No Class and Loudrangle.

Currently, more than half of the mares in Sam-Son’s broodmare band are descendants of the incredible No Class, who continue to produce champions on the track, and stand alone as broodmares themselves. Two very special mares in the broodmare band, Deceptive Vision and Fun in the Desert (dam of Desert Ride – winner of the Woodbine Oaks 2019) are descendants of both No Class and Oleana.

Today, Sam-Son continues to breed its broodmares to North America’s top stallions. Sires of our 2018 and 2019 crops include: Candy Ride, Uncle Mo, Madaglia d’Oro, Ghostzapper, Malibu Moon, American Pharoah, More Than Ready, Distorted Humor, Awesome Again, Bernardini, Empire Maker, Union Rags, Pioneer of the Nile, Violence, Broken Vow, Stormy Atlantic, and Mastery.
